NOTE ABOUT THE AUDIO FOR THIS RELEASE:

The Blu-Ray release of Stargate SG-1 seasons 2 through 10
was mastered by VEI, which did a very poor job with the
audio for their release. The original DVD releases of
Stargate SG-1 included true 5.1 surround audio, whereas
VEI's Blu-Ray release contains fake 5.1 surround. In
their release, the front stereo channels have simply been
copied to the back channels, leading to a fairly
uncomfortable experience when attempting to watch the
series on an actual surround setup.

Instead of using the audio from the Blu-Ray release when
encoding this torrent, I have chosen to instead source it
from the original DVD audio, and properly synced it to
avoid lip sync issues. This means that the audio on this
torrent will be better than most other Blu-Ray torrent
releases of this season of Stargate SG-1.

Note that this issue does not apply to season 1 of the
show, which had true 5.1 surround on Blu-Ray, and only
stereo audio on DVD.

All Paarthurnax torrents are encoded in the AV1 video and
Opus audio codecs. This is a modern codec that offers the
best possible compression at any given quality level. Not
all media players support this format. If in doubt: VLC!

AV1-encoded files are usually around 30% smaller than
HEVC x265, and 50% smaller than AVC x264, at the same
quality.

The table above shows quality at mean, 75th, 25th and 1st
percentiles of frames, using Netflix's VMAF perceived
quality algorithm. Improvement above 93 is considered
imperceptible for film contents. All of our torrents
target a mean VMAF around 94 and 25th percentile no lower
than 91. This can be done while maintaining as small of a
file size as possible by splitting the video and encoding
the segments at a quality that is perfectly optimized for
each individual segment.
